[Note from Gregory]
Für Release is an arrangement much influenced by the jazz styling’s of Jelly Roll Morton. The improvisation section (mm. 109 ff.) uses very
little pedal, thus making the left hand chords dry and detached, while the right hand plays with a little more legato.
The swing is subtle and not overdone. In order to get a feeling for this style of playing, it is advisable to listen to some of his solo piano recordings taken from the collection of “The Library of Congress Recordings.” Winin' Boy Blues, Vol. 4 is a good place to start.
This piece is dedicated to Dr. Paul Wirth, a great mentor and friend.
